You'll Never Know
Love and life as the water cycle. Don’t let fear be a dam. Also written at the mountain cabin (by a babbling brook to emphasize the water theme). I came up with the chords, she had specific ideas for the structure and created lyrics to fit.
This is us sitting in our basement. She’d be horrified to know her vocals were recorded. I treasure hearing her voice on this.
Lyrics
Love is like water
Flowing under the ground
I’m divining
A way to get through to what I think I’ve found
Fear is like winter
Covering the spring
Yet you’re declining
The warm gift of sunshine the springtime can bring

You never know
How will you know
You never know until you cry
You’ll never know
How will you ever know
You’ll never know until you cry
Heart like a willow
Bends to the wind
Ever reminding the barren of winter to bloom once again
Time like a river
Carries the tears
Ever unwinding the minutes to hours, the hours to years

You never know
How will you know
You never know until you cry
You’ll never know
(Sorrows will come and go)
How will you ever know
(Rain showers turn to snow)
You’ll never know until you cry
(Into earth into river and ocean back into sky)
